About Us

Welcome to E. C. Stevens School

The E. C. Stevens School, named in 1961 to honor a local industrialist and school board member, is located in the southeast section of Wallingford. The children in Grades Preschool-Grade 2 who attend E.C. Stevens live in the area bound by South Elm Street, East Center Street, South Airline Road, and Harrison Road. Many of these students are within walking distance of school.

The brick, one-story building is on spacious grounds, adjoining the Dag Hammarskjold Middle School and Lyman Hall High School campuses. It features two enclosed courtyard atriums that can be viewed from hallways and classrooms. Technology including iPads, Chromebooks, Smart Boards, Touch Its, and Smart TVs are available for students to use. Computer lessons are taught as a regular part of the special area class schedule.

Our goal is to build a foundation to develop confident, knowledgeable, lifelong learners, thinkers, and problem solvers.

https://www.mypaymentsplus.com/. Money can be added electronically through this website. You will need the student id number to register. This is different from their lunch pin. The student ID number will be sent home by the school office.

□All Teachers have a Parent Engagement Action Plan as part of their Teacher Evaluation Plan for the year. Talk to your child’s teacher about the ways they will engage & communicate with parents throughout the school year.

Volunteerism

Goal: Be an active partner in education by volunteering

Examples:

□Attend PTO meetings – meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. They are held at Stevens for the first half of the year and held at Pond Hill for the second half of the year.

□Become a PTO member and make connections & receive updates from other parents. Membership is $10.00.

□Attend Parent Teacher Advisory Council (PTAC) meetings to collaborate with the Principal. These meetings are held every other month. Anyone is welcome at any meeting.

□Serve on a building-wide committee (School Climate, School Safety, Parent Ambassadors, Tools for Schools)

□Attend your child’s Open House

□Many teachers share information with parents via email. This opportunity is usually communicated from the teacher through information sent home at the beginning of the year or at open house. Teacher emails are in the format of: first initial of first name last name @wallingfordschools.org (e.g. John Smith would be JSmith@wallingfordschools.org). There is also a faculty directory on the district website: www.wallingford.k12.ct.us under District Information.

Collaboration with Other Schools and Board of Ed

Goal: Be a voice in decisions that affect all schools in Wallingford

□Participate on a District level in system-wide PTAC or special interest group. Anyone is welcome at any meeting.

□Attend a BOE meeting or Town Council meeting. Check the System wide PTAC website for meeting dates and times as well as for contact information for BOE and Town Council members: wallingfordswptac.com.

□Subscribe to updates from the Systemwide PTAC website for more information about parent volunteer opportunities, such as district committees looking for parent participation.

Miscellaneous

□ Photo identification is required to access all Wallingford Public Schools. When you click the button to enter E.C. Stevens, you will be asked to show your identification and state your reason for visiting.

□ Children will only be released to the parent/guardian or those names on our emergency list. Please be certain to report any changes to the school in writing.

Directions

From Hartford:

91 South to Exit 14 - take a right off the exit ramp and then an immediate left at the traffic light onto South Airline Road. Go through 1 traffic light (road now becomes Kondracki Lane). Follow to stop sign and take a left. Stevens is on the right.

From New Haven:

91 North to Exit 14 (Woodhouse Ave.) - take a left off the exit ramp. At the traffic light take a left onto Kondracki Lane. Follow to stop sign. and take a left. Stevens is on the right.

From 84:

Take 691 East to Meriden to 91 South. Follow the directions from Hartford above.
