Scholarships with April Deadlines

Please be aware that in order to meet the needs of all our students, all requests for transcripts and letters of recommendation must be submitted to the School Counseling office at least 10 business days prior to the scholarship deadline.     

 

Information for the following scholarships can be obtained in the School Counseling Scholarship File.   

 

YMCA/ROBERT D. PRYDE SCHOLARSHIP - APRIL 2

Any young man or woman can apply and is a resident of New Haven County. Student must be accepted into an accredited four year college and display leadership, character and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to children of New Haven County farmers who participate in 4-H clubs or similar organizations.

JOHN SHONECK SCHOLARSHIP FUND - DUE APRIL 2

The Silver City Marine Corps League, administrators of the John R. Shoenick Memorial Scholarship fund, will award three $1,000 scholarships to any graduating high school senior whose parents derived from, reside or work in the city of Meriden. They also must be a descendant or relative of a man or woman who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. A copy of the qualifying relative’s DD-214 (Proof of Honorable Discharge) must accompany the application to received special considerations. The third scholarship awarded will not be restricted to children or relatives of Veterans as are the original two. These scholarship awards will be made to applicants displaying scholastic achievement, potential for success in chosen field, outstanding character and citizenship, school and community service and/or financial need.

NEW HAVEN COUNTRY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION - DUE APRIL 2

The New Haven County Retired Teacher Association will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior who has an interest in pursing a career in teaching.

URIA & JOHANNA FISHBEIN CHARITABLE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP- DUE APRIL 3

This scholarship is awarded to a student of this year's senior class who are residents of the town of Wallingford and who desire to further their education by attending a two or four year accredited college or university. Eligibility requirements include community service, scholarship and financial need.  Applicants must have at least a cumulative C average through their junior year and must maintain a B average in their post secondary educational endeavors in order to remain eligible. The scholarship amount is up to $4,000 payable at the rate of $1,000 per year of undergraduate study. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

THE GREATER HARTFORD QUILT GUILD SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 4

The Guild will award a $1,000 scholarship to a student who is currently engaged in quilting.  Current members of the Greater Hartford Quilt Guild, children of current members and nephews, nieces or grandchildren of members are also eligible applicants.

HENRY KOLAKOWSKI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP- DUE APRIL 9

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who is planning to further their education by attending a two or four year college or a vocational training program. The student must demonstrate determination, the desire to succeed and overcome adversity, school improvement and compassion towards others.  Applications are available in the School Counseling office.

CIVITAN CLUB OF MERIDEN & WALLINGFORD, INC. - DUE APRIL 11

Civitan Club of Meriden & Wallingford, Inc.

Scholarship awarded to students who plan to pursue a career in Special Education or a related field such as Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, or Physical Therapy. Applicants must be a resident of Meriden or Wallingford.                                                                                 

Students are to use the Common High School Scholarship Application along with the Civitan Application, two letters of reference and a picture.

Return your completed application and all documentation to the School Counseling Office by April 11, 2012.

 

 

THE KLINE FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICE SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 12

At a minimum, at least one $250 scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving graduating senior who plans to attend the University of Connecticut and who has demonstrated a record of community service.

ANDRE GAGNE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FOURTH DEGREE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP- DUE APRIL 13

This scholarship is available to students living in or graduating from schools in the Wallingford / Durham area.  This is an annual scholarship in the amount of $300 for a deserving graduating high school senior planning on attending an institution of higher education. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

THOMAS R. PRETE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE ARTS- DUE APRIL 13

This scholarship is available to students living in or graduating from schools in Wallingford / North Haven area. This is an annual scholarship in the amount of $300 for a deserving graduating high school senior planning on attending an institution of higher education and majoring in performing, visual or graphic arts or performing, visual or graphic arts education. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

HISPANIC AMERICAN CULTURAL COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP- DUE APRIL 13

Scholarships are being offered to 2012 graduating seniors who were descended from Spanish-speaking ancestry and are planning to attend college. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

THE STEPHEN PHILLIPS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP -DUE APRIL 13

The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers renewable 4 year scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a commitment to serving others in school, the community or at home, and a strong work ethic. Awards are limited to residents of New England states and range from $3,000 to $10,000. OUR LADY OF FATIMA SCHOLARSHIPS - DUE APRIL 16

East applicant must be a high school senior and an active parishioner in good standing of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY SYSTEM FOUNDATION (BUILDING AND TRADES UNION) - TED MARTOCCHIO SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 17

Two $1,000 scholarships available to a graduating senior with a GPA 2.75 minimum; leadership or examples of volunteer work, resident of Connecticut, accepted full time to any of the four universities (CCSU, ECSU, SCSU OR WCSU) within Connecticut State University System for Fall 2012, must be a child of Building and Trades union member. Students with diverse interests will have preference. No specific major is required. Financial need must be demonstrated.

MUTUAL SECURITY CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP - APRIL 17

Six high school seniors will receive $1,000 scholarships in memory of Berny Klaus and Joseph G. Fernandes.  Applicants need to be a MSCU member of the child of a member and a high school senior.  Student must be in good academic standing, have demonstrated financial need and have given of themselves to improve the overall state of affairs in their community.  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA MENS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 17

Applicants must be a registered parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima. Applicant must be attending a secondary school during the 2012 calendar year. The school may be a two-year, four-year, or technical school. Selection will be based on Church and community involvement and to a lesser extent academic achievement.

FILIPEK FAMILY TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 18

This scholarship is given in memory of Winton S. Filipek, Sr.  The applicant must be a college-bound senior with a minimum “C” average, a participant on the school’s tennis team at the varsity level, and have a record of community involvement.

THE CONNECTICUT ASSOCIATION FOR HEALTH, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, RECREATION AND DANCE - DUE APRIL 18

MARY BENEVENTO/CTAHPERD

Any male or female student in the graduating class of a high school or preparatory school, who is a citizen of the United States of America and a resident within the State of Connecticut, who plans to engage in the professional studies of school health education, physical education, recreation or dance, may file an application. Such students must plan to pursue a certified program of studies in a collegiate institution in Connecticut offering a Bachelor’s degree.

CONNECTICUT EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC. - DUE APRIL 18

The Connecticut Education Foundation, Inc. has established an annual $1,000 scholarship for qualified minority candidates who have been accepted into an accredited two or four-year Connecticut College or University and intends to enter the teaching profession.

DENNIS MALONE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 19

The scholarship awards are open to applicants who are high school graduating seniors planning to attend an accredited four year college and pursue a career in park management, forestry, horticulture, agronomy, or a closely related field. DONALD B. WILBUR SCHOLARSHIP (LIBERTY BANK) - DUE APRIL 23

A $1000 scholarship is being offered to a 2012 graduating high school senior who is planning a career in engineering or a technology-related field.  Applicants must be graduating in 2012 from a high school in a town where Liberty Bank has an office (see application for listings).  Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

YALESVILLE-WALLINGFORD LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 23

The Club will offer two scholarships of $1,000 each to be awarded to a Wallingford resident who is a High School Senior and is planning to further their education. Student applications are evaluated based on academic excellence, school and community involvement, and financial need.

Use the High School Common Application including the financial page 5 and two letters of reference. The School Counseling Office will mail the applications.

KIWANIS CLUB OF WALLINGFORD - DUE APRIL 25

The Kiwanis Club of Wallingford will be offering two scholarships of $1,000 each in 2012. These will be awarded to Wallingford residents that are high school seniors.  The selection criteria will include academic achievement, financial need, and community involvement with emphasis on financial need and community service.

Students are to use the Common Scholarship Application and return your application to the School Counseling Office by Monday, April 25, 2012.

EXECUTIVE AUTO GROUP SCHOLARSHIPS (MTS ONLY)- DUE APRIL 25

Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to Sheehan High School students who are going onto higher education with a preference in Business.  Financial need is a MUST!  Applicants must also have proven success in areas of academic achievement and participates in extra-curricular activities.

Students are to use the Common Scholarship Application and return to the School Counseling office by Wed. April 25, 2012.

WALLINGFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION CLERICAL UNION SCHOLARSHIP - DUE APRIL 27

Two $250 scholarships, (one for each Wallingford high school) has been established by the Wallingford Board of Education Clerical Union to encourage high school seniors to continue their educational careers. The Annual Scholarships will be made to the applicants who have met the criteria established by the committee as determined by the panel of judges.

PATRICIA M. (TRICIA) COYLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP- DUE APRIL 27

This 2012 scholarship is in memory of Tricia Coyle, a 1986 Sheehan graduate who became victim of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.  A $2500 scholarship is available to Sheehan students and a $1500 scholarship is available to Lyman Hall students. Applicants should demonstrate academic excellence, school involvement, and volunteer service. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

M. CHRISTINE OHR MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (LHHS ONLY) - DUE APRIL 27

This scholarship will be awarded to a student accepted into a College/University pursing a career in nursing or other healthcare profession. This scholarship is given in memory by her family, Karin Pyskaty and Joan Bravo.

Students are to use the Common Scholarship Application including page 5 and return it to the School Counseling Department by April 27, 2012.

FRIENDS OF LYMAN HALL FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP (LHHS ONLY) - DUE APRIL 28

Awarded to seniors who have given outstanding support to football and Cheerleading at Lyman Hall and who plan to further their education.

MEMBERS OF, OR ALLIES TO, THE LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL COMMUNITY - DUE APRIL 30

Five of Connecticut’s premier human rights organizations are announcing that they will be offering scholarships to students who are members of, or allies to, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender of Intersex communities.
