Standardized Testing

Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is an online assessment aligned to the Connecticut Core Standards (CCS).  It is the mastery examination for Grades 3-8 for English Language Arts and Mathematics in the State of Connecticut.  It provides a reliable estimate of a student's overall performance in a subject area relative to grade-appropriate standards that enable valid interpretation of student achievement and progress.  

The SBA ELA and Mathematics summative assessments include a computer adaptive test; the mathematics test also includes a performance task. 

The Next Generation Science Standards Assessment are Connecticut's statewide mastery examination for science in grades 5, 8, and 11.

Each item begins with a real-world phenomenon that engages students in an authentic science experience or engineering design challenge.  Information is provided to students in multiple formats and must be used along with their science knowledge to respond to questions.  Some items inlcude only one or two interactions and others are more complex, called clusters.  

The SAT is a three hour examination measuring college and career readiness.  The Connecticut SAT School Day does not differ from the SAT.  The test is developed by the College Board and offered through the Connecticut State Department of Education for all grade eleven students.  The CT SAT School Day will focus on vocabulary tht students  use consistenly in college and career environments.  The CT SAT Day scores can be used for college admission if desired by the student or parent. 

The Las Links is a tool to help identify and monitor the progress of students requiring language skills.  It also provides information to inform instruction and to monitor progress toward English proficiency.  

The assessment emphasizes language development in the ares of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and comprehension for academic achievement.
