Tech Trep Academy

Initial Launch - Summer of 2018

In the summer of 2018, rising 6th grade students were invited to participate in summer online coursework with Tech Trep Academy. Over 100 students signed up to participate in courses facilitated by staff from Wallingford Public Schools and the Wallingford Public Library. Another dozen students signed up to work on courses at the YMCA. Students were able to choose from 5 different courses:

Middle School Launch- Fall of 2018

Starting with the start of school, students in grades 6, 7, and 8 at Moran Middle School were enrolled in Programming Foundations, Minecraft STEAM Foundations, and Minecraft® Modding 1.8 with Java® in their Information Technology classes. Students have explored advanced topics in Scratch, and created amazing worlds in Minecraft.

Elementary School Launch- Winter of 2019

Students in grades 4 and 5 in all 4 of our 3-5 elementary schools will be offered 2 Tech Trep courses from January to June. Students in enrichment courses with early adopting teachers will be able to participate in these courses. The goal is to roll out more courses to the same grade levels in the fall with a larger group of teachers. Students in Grade 4 can participate in Lego WeDo 2.0 and students in Grade 5 can participate in the Sound and Audio Mixing with Audacity.
