Student Success Plan

The Student Success Plan (SSP) is an individualized student-centered plan that engages every student based on their unique interests and strengths. The SSP will begin in Grade 6 and continue through high school. It will provide the student support and assistance in setting goals for academic, career, social, emotional, and physical development. The SSP and supporting activities, such as student portfolios and experiences outside the classroom, along with academic/personal records should be electronic and portable following the student from school to school and district to district.

This refers to Legislation Public Act No. 11-135: “For the school year commencing July 1, 2012, and each school year thereafter, each local and regional board of education shall create a student success plan for each student enrolled in a public school, beginning in grade six. Such student success plan shall include a student’s career and academic choices in grades six to twelve, inclusive.”

In Wallingford, The Student Success Plan addresses each student’s personal needs and interests supported by school counselors, teachers, staff, parents, administration and the community.

Core Components of the Wallingford SSP Plan:

An effective Student Success Plan is built around three core components:

  1. Academic Development
  2. Career Development
  3. Social, Emotional and Physical Development.

FIT TO GO PROGRAM:

In response to the growing youth health crisis, the Wallingford YMCA will once again offer the Fit To Go program. In this program, middle school students will learn about healthy living and nutrition, develop a focused and realistic work-out program they can stick with, have fun doing healthy activities, make new friends and feel better about themselves. There are two program—one for girls and one for boys. Both are after school two times a week and transportation is provided to the YMCA. We are looking for students who may benefit from this type of program. If you think your child may benefit from learning about healthy snacks with a nutritionist, fitness classes with a certified personal trainer, and fun activities, then please contact Guidance at 203-741-2907 for more information. Space is limited. It is a GREAT program! The next session will be starting soon!

Naviance

Throughout the year your child will be working with his/her school counselor to begin planning for their future. All Moran students will utilize Naviance Succeed, an online program that provides students with tools to explore learning styles, career interests and identify goals. We encourage families to explore the Naviance website. Your child can access their Naviance account using their school issued user name and password that is used to log into the computers at Moran.
